A to Z Challenge - Postcards

For the A to Z Challenge, I’m posting promo and other tips for writers, along with a daily photo. (All photos taken by me.)

Postcards are good for announcing the release of your book. You can mail them to fans, friends, family, libraries, bookstores, businesses, organizations, and target genre clubs or groups.

With the cover art displayed on one side, a condensed version of the bookmark information will appear on the back. Once again, go for quality with a glossy color front. The 4 x 6 size is best for mailing. This size and larger can be handed out during appearances, too.

Do you use postcards?

I like the idea of postcards. They wouldn't be that expensive and if you have good mailing list, they might be very effective.

Thanks, Diane.

This is a fantastic idea! Old school, but I love it. :)

Also, I gave you a shout out on my blog today in response to the shout out you gave me. Based upon that last sentence, people are going to think we just yell at each other from across the Internet. But I'm cool with that. :)

I do have some postcards of my earlier books but I need to make some more of my newest releases.

I have an artist friend who does art books and he swears by them. He sends them with ordered books, takes them to trade shows, etc. I need to start using them as well.

Ella, I was taking advantage of the fact I am short.

Thank you, EJ.

Steven, I've used them for years and they work.

I won a contest from some blog and received a few magnets and a postcard for a book. Honestly, I wondered if they were effective, but I guess anything that gets the picture and title before potential readers is a good investment.

Great suggestion L. Diane....

You've got all bases covered using postcards.

This is a great tip, Diane. I've received postcards for books being released and for book signings. The postcards also make nice bookmarks.

When I self-published I sent postcards out to anyone I could think of. A couple of family members framed them and stuck them on their wall! :)
