Piracy and the Internet

Here is a story that will BLOW YOU MIND!

Originally posted by a Blogger & DA friend, KKart, ( Deviant Art News ) this letter just defies logic and common sense.

This person stole images from someone else's site, and when that person closed his site, this person threatens to take legal action for removal of these images, which he has been using for business purposes.

Wow! What is wrong with people? The Internet is not yours for the taking!

This really gives food for thought to those of us with books, etc. online...

And since I am also a professional photographer, this really freaks me out...

What do you think?????

He can't be serious! That is weird and freaky. With that sort of attitude, I have a feeling he is one small businessman who won't be in business long.

All too true - it is a reality and I honestly don't know how this is going to get dealt with in any kind of fairness.

I liked the guy who got the emails response to the whole thing. I expect eventually this guy will be sued or try to sue someone and end up in hot water. It can be tricky to work out what is copyright on the web sometimes but this one is pretty outrageous.

Oh, that's just crazy! Some people just don't have anything better to do than cause trouble...

Well, this sure made me chuckle. The thing is, the world is full of narcissists who think everything is about them. It's impossible to teach them that marketing and PR is about helping others, too. They don't get that concept.

Diane, thanks for the laugh. I recall back in the day when the Internet was purely text-based and solely populated by geeks. A common expression at the time was "information wants to be free," which of course really means "I want your information for free."

The guy's a nutbag.

It's sad that we live in a world of "entitlement" and our schools are teaching it to future generations. What ever happened to earning something or creating your own work? People will try to sue for anything these days. I think he is in for a big surprise, but unfortunately things like this go on all the time.

I make sure anything I use is either my own creation or I get permission to use in writing because it can work both ways. My boss paid for the right to use a picture on our company website ten years ago. Now a new company has bought this stock picture company and has contracted a firm that will scour the internet for specific images so they can send bills to people using them and threaten to sue if they don't pay. Who knew they could do that.
